Fellowship Program

Fellowship Program

The Canadian Academy of Nursing Fellowship Program recognizes and celebrates the most accomplished nurses in Canada and across all domains of nursing practice. Honouring the best of our profession, academy Fellows will earn the right to use the credential Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Nursing (FCAN).

In its commitment to inclusion and the dismantling of racist and systemic discriminatory practices within the organization, nursing, and health care, CNA is eager to attract a diverse slate of nominees for Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Nursing. We encourage nominations from groups that have not been historically well represented in — or have been excluded from — our identification of leadership in Canadian nursing, but whose career contributions have had a distinctive impact on nursing and/or health care within their communities. Our hope is that the academy Fellows will reflect the diversity of nurses in what is now called Canada.

2023 Fellows

The Canadian Academy of Nursing is pleased to celebrate the 2023 Fellows and CNA award recipients. You can read about each recipient in our honorary book.

Fellowship represents the highest honour for Canada’s most accomplished nursing leaders in clinical practice, education, administration, research and policy. Fellows include executives, presidents, deans, provincial and territorial government nursing leaders, hospital and health authority executives, clinical leaders, advanced practice nurses, scholars, researchers, thought leaders, teachers, retired nurses and exceptional clinicians from all categories of nurses.

To become a Fellow, you must make a detailed submission to the Canadian Academy of Nursing, which includes the provision of completed nomination forms by two nominators. Ideally, at least one nominator will be a Fellow of the Academy. However, since not all eligible candidates may have close working access to colleagues who are Fellows, we suggest that you select nominators who would be recognized as senior nursing leaders with equivalent experience. Learn more about the nomination process and try our self-assessment tool.
