Dennie (Denise) Hycha, RN, MN received her diploma in Nursing through the University of Alberta Hospital, Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Alberta and a Masters in Nursing degree at the University of Calgary with a specialty in palliative care. Dennie has worked in acute care in orthopedics, oncology and pediatrics moving to community palliative and home care clinical practice settings. She has worked as an educator in nursing and palliative care programs as well as in quality and accreditation at a zone level. Her leadership in palliative care includes chapter author to the Oxford Textbook of Palliative Nursing, co-contributor to A Caregiver’s Guide, and representing Alberta at the national hospice palliative care and accreditation tables. A strong advocate for individual and family centered community-based care, Dennie’s administration expertise has centred around hospice and palliative care services along with continuing care services operating from a servant leadership paradigm. She recently retired an operational leader working collaboratively with integrated services to address operations, strategic planning, and service delivery for continuing care services across a provincial rural portfolio. Her professional passions include continued learning, leadership development, strategy and advocacy and incorporating health and wellness in community-based settings. She was formerly the president of the Canadian Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta and a CNA Board Member. Recently retired Dennie continues to enhance understanding of social justice issues for those underserved in rural areas as well as individual responsibility around the impacts of climate change.
