Canadian Nurses Association President to Meet with Nurses in Sudbury, Wednesday, October 22

Ottawa, October 21, 2014 — Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) president Dr. Karima Velji will tour health facilities in Sudbury, Ontario, and meet with local members of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

Tomorrow marks Velji’s first trip to northern Ontario since she was officially installed as CNA’s 46th president. Her day in Sudbury will include visits to the nurse leaders at Health Sciences North (University Hospital), Laurentian University’s school of nursing and the North East Community Care Access Centre, along with a presentation to RNAO’s Sudbury and District chapter.

In Velji’s meeting with RNAO members, she plans to learn about their innovative nursing practices and projects and hear about the health challenges residents are facing in the area, such as high rates of chronic disease and a shortage of health professionals. On behalf of CNA, she will share the national organization’s plans to promote and enhance the role of registered nurses with a view to strengthening nursing and the Canadian health system.
