RN Prescribing Framework

RN Prescribing Framework

Implementing RN prescribing in Canada is more complex than in other countries, primarily because the provinces and territories are responsible for delivering health care. Still, a common framework supported by national, provincial and territorial collaboration would be valuable for promoting consistency, credibility, mobility and public engagement on the issue.

Since it would also be useful to adopt a pan-Canadian approach before the design and regulation of RN prescribing goes much further, the board asked CNA to develop a framework for provincial and territorial government decision-makers to use whenever they were considering its implementation.

The Framework for Registered Nurse Prescribing in Canada [PDF, 566 KB] seeks to provide such a framework.
