CNA joins nurses in ongoing sorrow over Haiti
In this message to its members, CNA joins fellow nurses in expressing deep sorrow over the tragic events taking place in Haiti following the devastating earthquake, including the death of Ontario nurse Yvonne Martin. If you want to help, please send donations to the Canadian Red Cross or Médecins Sans Frontières.
CNA, nurses mourn loss of one of their own in Haiti
The Canadian Nurses Association extends its most sincere condolences to the family and friends of nurse Yvonne Martin of Elmira, Ont., who died in the devastating earthquake in Haiti. She was killed shortly after arriving in Port-au-Prince to work with a volunteer group that was planning to provide medical care and support in several of the island’s northern communities.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family and community, with the many victims of this terrible disaster, and with our colleagues in Haiti who will play a critical role in the recovery and reconstruction efforts.
POSITION STATEMENT – Determinants of Health
Determinants of health play a powerful role in people’s health. In this position statement, CNA endorses a broad approach to supporting health that addresses factors both within and outside the health sector. CNA calls on policy-makers to ensure that addressing determinants of health is made a priority for achieving health goals.
