Patricia has been practising nursing in rural Southern Ontario within hospitals and community settings for over 40 years. Her compassion and leadership in those sectors led her to leadership roles with St. Elizabeth Health Care, where she became a palliative care resource nurse. Pat is now the director of care at Hospice Wellington, a role she has led for the past four years, in Guelph, Ontario. With her leadership, Pat directs the care of this interprofessional team in this 10-bed hospice home. As well, she ensures that a multitude of services is provided within the community to support individuals and their families needing palliative care. In the complex emotional environment of palliative care, one of her colleagues stated, “Pat excudes kindness and gentleness, and a sense of calmness to any situation.” Pat’s passion, empathy and leadership guide her every day as she advocates and supports those diagnosed with a life-limiting illness.
