Ethel Hook

I had the privilege of working with Ethel on a research project entitled the Manitoba Heart Health Project. Her knowledge of population health promotion and the need to recognize the political context was an asset to the team. Known as a “straight shooter,” you could always depend on Ethel to drill down to the facts and summarize what needed to happen to achieve the intended outcomes — “doing what’s right for the client/community.” Ethel’s commitment to reducing the silos and working across the various agencies who focused on promoting prevention and risk factor modification was evident by her many volunteer hours to support the establishment of a chronic disease alliance.
