EXTRA’s mission is to teach Canadian health-care executives how to adopt evidence-based solutions in their day-to-day decision-making.
For senior to mid-career health leaders, the 14-month EXTRA program offers focused team training able to improve organizational quality and service.
EXTRA training is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to become an effective change agent, either within your own health-care organization or across jurisdictions. By conducting an evidence-informed intervention project, you’ll learn to improve patient outcomes, quality of care and cost-effectiveness.
Prestigious Canadian and international faculty and practice leaders help EXTRA fellowship teams initiate and lead evidence-informed improvements based on current research.
The fully bilingual program is offered through a combination of residency sessions and online learning:
- A one-day orientation session
- Three away-from-home residency sessions (four weeks in total over 14 months)
- Intervention projects supported by mentors and coaches at home organizations
- Online learning modules between residency sessions
EXTRA is managed by the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI) and is funded by a grant from Health Canada. CFHI has partnered with the Canadian Nurses Association, the Canadian College of Health Service Executives and the Canadian Medical Association to help manage, support and promote the EXTRA program.
