Graduate Programs

Is there a need for graduate-prepared registered nurses?
Yes, the nursing profession and health-care system need RNs with advanced preparation. Many nurses who have graduate nursing degrees are leaders, researchers or educators. Some are involved in advanced practice and nursing specialties.

Where can I obtain information about graduate programs in Canada?
CNA maintains an education database that contains Canadian master's and doctoral programs in nursing, as well as programs and courses offered by distance education.

Are foreign graduate programs offered via distance learning?
Several foreign graduate programs, for example in the U.S. and Australia, are offered via distance learning. There is currently no mechanism in Canada that allocates uniform recognition of foreign nursing graduate degrees. Credentials of potential students are evaluated by each Canadian university on an individual basis and may therefore vary from one university to another.
