Student Representative

Scarlett Montserrat Sanabria-Ramos is a second-year BScN student at the University of Ottawa, Algonquin Woodroffe stream, residing on the traditional, unceded territories of the Algonquin Nations and Anishinaabe Peoples, colonially known as Ottawa. As a dedicated advocate for nursing students, she is committed to amplifying their voices and fostering a culture of inclusivity and support.

Scarlett currently serves on the board of directors of the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association (CNSA) as the director of communications, where she enhances student engagement and advances policies that promote accessibility and inclusivity within nursing education. She is also spearheading the development of a program that fosters a welcoming and empowering environment for nursing students, ensuring they have the resources to succeed academically and professionally.

With a previous B.H.Sc. in French Immersion, Scarlett brings a strong interdisciplinary foundation to her nursing practice. Her clinical focus lies in pediatric care, where she strives to address systemic health-care disparities and advocate for improved access to care. Guided by a deep sense of empathy and a belief in the power of collective action, she works to uplift marginalized voices, create spaces for meaningful dialogue, and challenge the barriers that limit equitable health-care access.

Beyond academia, Scarlett works as an administrative assistant for the mental health department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), where she gains firsthand insight into the complexities of pediatric mental health care. Her passion is deeply influenced by her multicultural background; born in the United States, raised in Mexico, and now contributing to health care in Canada, her journey has shaped her understanding of global health disparities, strengthened her commitment to equitable care, and deepened her ability to connect with diverse communities in meaningful ways.
