Inspire Nursing: A LEADS-based Leadership Program

Program overview

This program will cover a range of content, including defining individual leadership styles and growth opportunities, building engagement strategies, exploring systems thinking, and sparking change leadership abilities to influence the system within which the participants work. Inspire Nursing is delivered in a blended format that includes online synchronous and asynchronous facilitated learning that bookends a two-day in-person session.

Nurses from across the continuum of care, including direct care nurses, emerging leaders, new managers, existing leaders, and nursing executives, who are looking to create opportunities to increase their leadership capabilities and have an impact on the health system will be able to take advantage of this best-in-class, high impact program.

Inspire Nursing will keep the best aspects of the Dorothy Wylie Health Leaders Institute and be based in the LEADS in a Caring Environment health leadership capabilities framework. It is designed to provide nurses with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to be effective leaders in health-care organizations and to effect system change. The innovative partnership will provide participants with membership in both organizations, and provide the ability to, upon completion, obtain the CHE designation and potentially a CNA certification.

Upon program completion, participants will have:

• Completed a LEADS 360 Assessment with a 90-minute Executive Coaching debriefing.
• Completed a project implementation plan for an action project.
• Completed a leadership development plan, revised during the program to reflect specific learning needs to support the project implementation.
• Participated in an additional one-hour of one-on-one Executive Coaching.
• Received a copy of the Bringing Leadership to Life in Health: LEADS in a Caring Environment 2nd Edition hard cover book.
• One year membership with the Canadian Nurses Association.
• One year membership with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL), which includes access to the CCHL Circle, offering both online networking opportunities across Canada and on-demand leadership development opportunities.
• Completed the requirements for the Certified Health Executive (CHE) credential offered through the CCHL*.

*Participants are required to successfully complete all aspects of the program to be eligible for the CHE credential. There is an additional fee for those wishing to receive their credential.
