December 1, 2023 — The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) re-iterates its earlier calls for an immediate end to any and all acts that endanger health personnel and civilians in the Israel-Gaza conflict. Nurses continue to voice concern over the situation created by the Israel-Gaza conflict and the extreme humanitarian crisis and loss of life that continues to prevail.
CNA supports the October 13 statement of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) that called for “all parties to respect their legal obligations under international humanitarian law to protect and respect access to healthcare and ensure the safety of civilians and healthcare workers” and an “immediate cessation of any acts that risk the lives of civilians or health workers.
Earlier statements by CNA, WHPA, and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) have condemned the violence and terrorism in the conflict and have called for ensuring the safety of health-care workers and a continuation of health-care services. CNA stands with the nurses risking everything to provide care during this conflict, and we condemn all forms of anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, violence, racism and discrimination.
CNA asks for solidarity in the safeguarding of the welfare of Jewish and Palestinian people in Canada in response to the rising incidents of Islamophobia and antisemitism across Canada and globally.
Nurses are encouraged to support ICN’s #NURSESFORPEACE campaign and advocate to their governments for a peaceful, safe resolution and permanent ceasefire.

About the Canadian Nurses Association
CNA is the national and global professional voice of Canadian nursing. Our mission is to advance the nursing profession to improve health outcomes in Canada’s publicly funded, not-for-profit health system. CNA is the only national association that speaks for all nurses in all sectors and practice settings across all 13 provinces and territories. We represent nurses that are unionized and non-unionized, retired nurses, nursing students, and all categories of nurses (licensed and registered practical nurses, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and registered psychiatric nurses).
