The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) is proud to partner with Nursing The Future (NTF) to support new graduate nurses and early career nurses in their transition into the profession. This collaboration reinforces CNA’s commitment to transition support, workforce retention, professional development, and excellence in nursing across Canada.

NTF utilizes an online platform to provide structured mentorship, preceptorship, and onboarding programs, supporting new graduates and early-career nurses in transitioning from academia to practice. Without transition support, many new nurses leave the profession within two years. NTF provides targeted resources — such as peer networks, leadership training, and mental health tools — to help retain talent, reduce recruitment costs, and build a stable workforce.

By combining NTF’s expertise in supporting new nurses with CNA’s national reach and longstanding programs, the partnership aims to expand the network of transition support, improve retention, and enhance patient care outcomes. “Supporting the enculturation of new graduate nurses and early career nurses is key to sustaining our health-care system. Through this partnership, we can help provide new nurses with the network and tools to thrive, ensuring a resilient nursing workforce,” said Dr. Valerie Grdisa, CEO of CNA.

New graduate nurses and early career nurses bring fresh knowledge but need time and guidance to develop confidence. Investing in their development leads to better patient outcomes and safer care. NTF collaborates with nursing leaders and educators to deliver evidence-based resources and introduce new graduate nurses and early career nurses to the breadth and depth of nursing experience across the nation.

“The transition from student to nurse is a critical career phase,” said Dr. Judy Boychuk Duchscher, director of NTF. “Without structured support, new graduate nurses and early career nurses face stress, burnout, and decreased confidence, leading to early attrition. That’s why we are pleased to partner with CNA to continue the support of new graduate nurses and early career nurses.”

Together, CNA and NTF are committed to building a strong, supported, and resilient nursing workforce. Learn more at www.nursingthefuture.ca.
